Excavation is done routinely have discovered the oldest house in Scotland around 10,000 years old.
Homes when prehistoric Scotland have been found in the excavation area of Edinburgh, Scotland. The house is estimated to stand at the Mesolithic period at 10 252 years ago. Of radiocarbon test conducted, researchers estimate that this is the oldest house found in Scotland.
"These findings, in particular the results of laboratory analysis adds a very useful information for researchers on early Scottish residents and buildings 10,000 years ago," said Senior Archaeologist, Rod McCullagh. At the site, discovered a few things besides the post holes, such as hot spots, bows, and prehistoric tools.
Archaeologists believe that the house is not occupied all year round, but only when the winter comes. This is because the researchers also found large quantities of hazelnuts in the storage area of the house. Excavation Project Manager, Ed Bailey said, "The discovery of this kind is rare and this site has given us an opportunity to develop our understanding of human prehistory."
Ed added that with the present invention, the Mesolithic lifestyle will span the 'hierarchy in more detail. "All discovery and archaeological evidence analyzed and will help us gather palaeoenviromental puzzles and picture detail about the Mesolithic," he added.
